Rules & Regulations

For our garden and community to flourish, it is essential that we all follow these rules and regulations. Thank you for your cooperation.
  1. Each member will contribute annual dues by March 15 for each year. This is a family membership, for immediate family.
  2. One member from each family will have one vote on all garden matters. Members must be present at a meeting to vote.
  3. Our garden’s ability to thrive depends on the active, ongoing involvement of our members. With this in mind, every member is expected to assist in one initial spring garden preparation shift, at least one monthly group project, and one end of season clean-up shift. These are major projects that can only succeed with the help of everyone working together.
  4. Each member must serve in the garden for at least three work shifts per month during the growing season, or equivalent time as arranged with the Work Session Leaders.
  5. All sign-ups will be managed by an established account with SignUpGenius. All members must use this system.
  6. Each shift will have a leader who will direct the work of the shift, oversee progress and record amount of produce harvested on the listserv site.
  7. At the end of each shift, compostable waste must be placed in the composting bin. Non-compostable waste must be carried offsite to your home garbage.
  8. We are fortunate to have water available at this site. Please use collected rain water first. Then use water sparingly for garden purposes only.
  9. We are on school property and must be respectful of academic needs. No shifts will be scheduled at any time when noise would interfere with academic activities. During the school year, members should not visit the garden during school hours.
  10. No yelling running, climbing on plants or playing in the garden area.
  11. Always be sure vegetables/fruit are ripe before picking. Always leave some for others.
  12. Pets are not allowed on the garden site.
  13. Parents and caretakers must ensure that children understand and follow the rules and regulations. No child under eighteen may be in the garden without a parent or caretaker.
  14. No drugs or alcohol on the site.
  15. Amplified sound is not permitted except through headphones.
  16. This is an organic garden. No synthetic herbicides, pesticides or non-organic fertilizers are permitted. If there is uncertainty, please contact one of our master gardeners.
  17. Garden borders must remain clearly marked for the sake of Alexandria City maintaining the rest of the property.
  18. Recycled/reused materials will be used whenever possible for all garden needs.
Enforcement of Rules and Regulations
(Note: this applies to both adults and children)

All members are responsible for enforcing the rules and regulations. If infractions are noted, notify a member of the Board of Directors. The Board has the right to revoke the membership of any member who repeatedly fails to comply with these rules and regulations.
